VIVITROL is indicated for:
  • The treatment of alcohol dependence in patients who are able to abstain from alcohol in an outpatient setting prior to initiation of treatment with VIVITROL. Patients should not be actively drinking at the time of initial VIVITROL administration.
  • The prevention of relapse to opioid dependence, following opioid detoxification.

VIVITROL should be part of a comprehensive management program that includes psychosocial support.

SAMHSA TIP 49 supports VIVITROL® as a treatment option for patients with alcohol dependence1

TIP 49: Incorporating Alcohol Pharmacotherapies Into Medical Practice

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) develops Treatment Improvement Protocols (TIPs), which are best-practice guidelines for the treatment of substance use disorders. SAMHSA draws on the experience and knowledge of clinical, research, and administrative experts to produce TIPs and distributes them to facilities and individuals across the country.1

samhsa tip 49 states vivitrol should be considered for patients with alcohol dependence who1:

  • Have not responded to other treatments
  • Are unable to maintain medication adherence

SAMHSA TIP 49 states: Substantial evidence exists for the efficacy of VIVITROL; its extended-release injectable delivery system helps address patient noncompliance.1

samhsa states vivitrol may be useful for patients1,2:
